Diana Boxer is Professor of Linguistics and former director of UF’s Linguistics Program (2000-2005).  She is co-editor of Studying Speaking to Inform Second Language Learning (2004) and author of Applying Sociolinguistics:  Domains and Face-to-Face Interaction ( 2002) and Complaining and Commiserating:  A Speech Act View of Solidarity in Spoken American English (1993).  She teaches and publishes in the areas of cross-cultural discourse and pragmatics, sociolinguistics, gender and language, and second language acquisition.  Boxer is former associate director of UF’s English Language Institute.
