Michael Gorham (Ph.D., Stanford) is an Associate Professor of Russian Studies in UF’s Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies, where he teaches courses in contemporary Russian literature and culture, the Russian mass media, Russian folklore, and Russian language of all levels. Professor Gorham also serves as Associate Editor for The Russian Review and The Russian Language Journal. His book, Speaking in Soviet Tongues: Language Culture and the Politics of Voice in Revolutionary Russia (Northern Illinois University Press, 2003), was selected as an "Outstanding Academic Book" by Choice Magazine and won the 2004 award for "Best Book in Literary and Cultural Studies" from the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL). His current research explores the interdependence of language, culture, politics, and national identity in late- and post-Russia and has appeared in article and chapter form in publications in the U.S., Russia, Holland, and Norway.
